Outstanding Women Leadership Series
Fall 2006 – Spring 2009
Lee Riddell, ICCD's Assistant Director, will be working with the America Association of Women in Community Colleges to identify and interview women at community colleges in AAWCC's Region II (New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico) who have made outstanding contributions to creating and broadening opportunities for women in community colleges. Twenty-one women, one from each of the seven colleges (or "chapters") in the region each year for the next three years, will be chosen for their insight and dedication to their colleges, their communities and their professions.
These women’s stories (edited by Martha Stettinius), along with their photos, will be on Monroe Community College’s website (Monroe is the home institution of the Region II director), as well as on the individual college websites of the women honored. Press releases will be sent to AAWCC, the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Community College Times and the chapters’ local newspapers.
Selected by their chapter to represent the rich diversity and collective wisdom of their local area, each woman will be asked to share her life story by answering the following interview questions:
- What life lessons do you live by?
- What inspires you?
- Describe a “defining moment” that changed the course of your life.
- In a sentence, what one thing would you like to tell other women?
- What contribution to your local AAWCC chapter are you most proud of?
To recommend a woman, chapter presidents will submit the Recommendation form below, attaching a vita, résumé, or summary of activities (two-page maximum), and a statement describing how this person stands out.
The individual will then be contacted to be interviewed over the phone.
