Project Management for Teams in Higher Education
The dynamic nature of contemporary higher education requires that community college administrators and faculty respond to a host of new challenges, many of which fall outside normal responsibilities and cut across departmental, divisional, and disciplinary lines. Project management offers an approach to coordinating activities among diverse units, enabling them to work together to achieve their objectives on time and on budget.
This three-day workshop presents an overview of the major steps in leading and managing a project. By the end of the program, participants have the tools to:
- apply a project management methodology that involves planning, organizing, directing, and controlling performance
- appoint a project team and lead it from project inception to completion
- create a project plan and work breakdown structure for managing and controlling the project
- use a sophisticated tool for documenting and communicating project plans and results
A few comments from participants:
"I have never had a better instructor. He was excellent, informative, interactive, and engaging."
"Our team got 60% of our project completed during the workshop."
"The project management seminar helped make our project a reality instead of an idea. Our group was energized by the instructor, inspired by our group work and motivated by the workshop materials."
"The knowledge gained on formalizing our data and reports will lend additional credit and merit to our project management."
Whether they are responsible for planning a new building, converting their data management system, or redesigning the general education curriculum, participants in this second workshop will gain the skills they need to complete a project on time and on budget. Project teams are encouraged to attend.
