Leadership Academy: Ensuring Campus Web Site Accessibility

The Institute for Community College Development is cosponsoring this one-day workshop with the Northeast ADA and IT Center at Cornell University in collaboration with Brookdale Community College.

April 27, 2005
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Brookdale Community College
765 Newman Springs Road
Lincroft, New Jersey
Join us for a day of information and discussion around the topic of creating a college Web site that is accessible to students with disabilities and the wider college community. Gather a team of representatives from the disability services office, faculty, Web developers, IT administrators and instructional technology specialists.

Topics include:

  • Legal considerations
  • Costs/Benefits of accessible design
  • Barriers posed by inaccessible pages
  • Specific accessible design techniques
  • Creating accessible distance learning content
  • Evaluating your Web pages for accessibility
  • Making a plan for ensuring that your campus Web site is accessible.

The goal of the program is for those attending to become leaders on their respective campuses in raising awareness about Web accessibility issues as well as taking actions to improve the accessibility of new and existing Web content. Regionally, we hope to build a network of professionals, both within the region as well as within a given college, who are knowledgeable about Web accessibility and can help build interest and momentum for addressing Web accessibility issues.

For those who don't feel they can devote an entire day to this program, we have designed the morning sessions to build an awareness of the issues as well as to start discussing the accessibility of your college Web site. The afternoon session offers two tracks, one for the more technically savvy Web developers and one for administrators, staff and faculty who are interested in accessibility considerations for distance learning courses and techniques for evaluating Web pages for accessibility.

Registration is $35.00 person; light continental breakfast and lunch is included.

Deadline for registration: April 8, 2005
