Department Chair Leadership Development

Although the responsibilities of the department chairperson have grown measurably more demanding, individual preparation and institutional support for this position have changed little over the last few decades.

This program of two sessions (2-3 days each) approximately six weeks apart is designed to help department chairs critically examine their roles and develop the knowledge, skills and abilities to lead and manage an academic department.

Leading and motivating faculty and staff, building an effective team, setting direction for an academic department, coaching and evaluating faculty and staff and resolving individual and group conflict are covered in individual and small group exercises and on-line assignments.  Case studies and role plays are customized to your college/system, using your collective bargaining agreement or other personnel policies as appropriate.
