Ruth Hopkins
Program Consultant
As a consultant and researcher with ICCD, Ruth Hopkins has directed the Applied Research Grant Program, conducted program evaluations and research studies, and developed and delivered professional development mentoring programs. She has consulted with colleges, universities, and community educational organizations. She is currently working with ICCD to develop the Campus Based Leadership Development Program for SUNY Community Colleges.
Hopkins earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Cornell University and began her research on professional adult mentoring while working with the Institute for Community College Development at Cornell. She holds an M.B.A. from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester, and a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College.
Ruth Hopkins has spent 39 years in leadership, planning, financial and administrative positions in higher education, 10 years within the community college sector. Ruth’s unique combination of academic leadership experience and management skills enables her to understand the college sector from multiple perspectives and to work with faculty, administrators, and staff across the institution.
Ruth’s most recent work with the Institute includes research in community college mentoring practices, evaluation of mentor training programs, and design and delivery of mentoring workshops. Her latest research for ICCD compared the benefits of individual and team attendance at a professional learning conference.
